Ellie has grown up! I don't know when it happened, but she did it.
I had been telling her for a little while that it was almost time for a nap. She wanted some yogurt, so we sat together at the computer and ate some yogurt. I told her when it was gone that it was time for her to go to sleep. We finished, and she said, "Now I'm going to go to sleep." And away she went. Did I really think she was going to go put herself into her bed and go to sleep all alone? No way!
So I finish up on the computer and quietly walk back to her bedroom to find her all snuggled in a blanket in her very own bed and very much asleep! How in the heck? When did she learn how to do this???
As I thought back on the last couple of days, she has repeatedly asked to do things on her own, somewhat successfully. Just today she wanted to make her own cheese roll-up (grated cheese on a tortilla melted, rolled-up) and did just about everything for that. She even set the timer and took it out of the microwave and all that (though we did happen to break the handle on the microwave... oops). She also poured/spilled her own glass of lemonade. And then proceeded to clean up the mess that she had made, telling me, "I got it, Mom." I have no idea what the mess even looked like because she had cleaned it up before I got to see it! Yesterday she made the lemonade pretty much all by herself. She can practically shower herself these days. She is so smart and so grown up! Her 3rd birthday is in one week and I can hardly believe it.
So I guess what you do when you're kid starts to grow up is have another kid! That's right. We never officially blogged the announcement, though many of you know, we are expecting baby #2 March 2. Well, I'm expecting it to come sometime in February, but we'll see. We have our ultrasound scheduled next week to see if we are having a boy or girl - yes, we are finding out this time around.
I also chopped Ellie's hair again. This time to just about chin length. She looks pretty cute and loves that she doesn't have to hold her hair back when she drinks from a drinking fountain. I'll have to post a photo soon. Pretty cute, grown up little girl!

Congratulations you guys! I bet Ellie can't wait to be a big sister!
HOORAY! Congrats for the new baby coming and for raising such a great "big girl"!
oh my goodness! Little Ellie! I can't believe it! I am excited to hear what you guys find out next week!
Congratulations! That's exciting.
That's pretty funny about Ellie putting herself to bed. When Joseph and I were watching my nephew, he also did the same thing. We told him after the story it was bed time. When we were done, he got up walked to the hallway and looked at us like "Come on, it's bed time." It was the funniest thing. :) I think he was around the same age as Ellie too.
Congrats on your new one! I'm excited for you! We've got 5 1/2 weeks to go for our first little one.
Oh wow! She really has grown up, and what exciting news! She still is as gorgeous as I remember her. Way to be such an incredible mom to surely and incredible girl!
Congratulations. I can't wait to find out what you're having. And also to see Ellie's new hair cut. I'm starting to brave up the idea of finally cutting Rachel's. The growing independence is fun, but do you find it slows things down a lot. I'm starting to get used to it...you just can never be in a rush. That's what I've learned.
Yay, a new post, and yay for more babies. That's great you guys. I was hoping Ellie wouldn't be the only child of two great parents. I hope everything goes great with the pregnancy. We will have our daughter any day now. Hope you guys are doing well. Next time you dance a little hip-hop around the house, think of our old BSU crashing and our sweet moves. Take care.
Congrats on the new baby and yay for a new post! I was starting to worry about you guys- ha ha! Reading your post actually made me sick to think that she is only 1+ years older than Crew and I just couldn't believe how many grown up things Ellie is doing! Wow! Can't wait to see what you are having!
